A Week in Progress Jan 16-22
Well. That was a hellish long weekend. Let me be clear. All of my blogs, especially A Week In Progress, are anti-capitalist.
I originally started AWIP as filler content for when I don't have completed write-ups for my finished projects. However, I think the underlying idea of this blog is very important for the coming years. Progress happens in incremental steps that take time. Slowing down, resting, being with our communities, and resting some more are acts of resistance. We need to keep making our art, keep resting, and keep calling out fascism when we see it. Don't let the current news discourage you. That's the point. Rest so we can keep going.
OK. So what did I do this week?
Made more crochet flowers
Rest (maybe a little disassociating)
Write about my Imogen build for newsletter subscribers
Crochet flowers: I have almost used up that first skein on yarn for the crochet flowers. I'm mostly working on it at night while watching TV, and if a dog decides it needs to be her pillow, what am I going to do? Say “No?” So it's slow going. Once I use up that yarn I am going to start working on using up a full skein of the contrasting darker purple. Then I'll have a good idea of how many squares I can make out of the amount of yarn I have.
Rest: Anyone else having trouble avoiding the doom scroll? One of the best pieces of advice I got from a post (during a doom scroll) was to not let the torrent of news overwhelm you. You also can't do all of your activism at once. Making time to rest will continue to be important. For me this can look like doing Sudoku to take my racing mind off of the news, or making sure I get to bed on time.
I also made an obstacle course for my dogs, which was a very fun activity that got them tired and me laughing. I'll make sure to get pictures next time!
Imogen blog: I have finished the first draft of my big Imogen cosplay build write-up! I want to read through it and edit it a bit more before I publish it for all of you subscribed to my newsletter. This will be the new exclusive post! I'm hoping to start getting these types of posts out every quarter, but they do take a long time to write. Balancing fun story elements with explaining how I made something can be difficult. It's easy to get long winded. This makes the extra editing a little more important on these build logs.
Ok. I think I maybe did other things, but I'm having trouble remembering what it all is. My goal for next week is to be able to start giving you all updates for my next big build. So that's something to look forward too next week!
Rest well, everyone <3
