Hello I’m Alicia, or more commonly known online as Dewfeathers.

I am a cosplayer, fusion belly dancer, and environmentalist. I have been cosplaying since 2006 and started taking fusion belly dance classes in 2015. Currently I enjoy designing and creating cosplays using fantasy and fusion dance silhouettes. I use completed cosplays in performances, photo shoots, and fun improvised dances set to nerdy music.  I am also a Foundation through Expansion Phase Certified teacher for the Fly Fusion dance format.

I made my first convention cosplay in 2006 for YoumaCon with my cousin, dressed up as Hikaru and Kaoru from the show Ouran Highschool Host Club. We crafted our cosplays on the way to the convention sprinting into thrift stores and fashioning accessories out of bits and baubles from a small craft shop! While in graduate school I started taking belly dance classes at my local studio and immediately fell in love with the fusion dance style. It just felt natural to fuse these two hobbies, which resulted in me winning a Masquerade Cosplay Competition at Galaxycon Minneapolis in 2019.

As a former natural resources researcher, finding ways to incorporate sustainability into my craft is very important to me. For many of my cosplays, including my award winning 2019 Suicune Gijinka cosplay, I use thrifted and up-cycled materials. Sometimes the entire cosplay is made this way, like my Ewok cosplay, more often it is at least a portion of the cosplay.

Art has always been a large part of my life, stemming from my mom’s love of dancing and music as well as my dad’s skill with pen and ink.  I studied cello performance through grade school, but chose to focus on biology in college. I continued to fuel my artistic interest by cosplaying at both local and international conventions. Upon completing my masters degree in biology I choose to completely switch careers to be able to put all of my focus into starting my business.
