This is why I can't stand con crunching. I was trying to finish up Fearne before C2E2 however life conspired against me. About a week ago I thought I might still be able to get this cosplay done in time, so I stopped doing literally anything else besides work on Fearne. A couple of days ago I realized I was not enjoying myself, and starting to do work I wasn't happy with.

So I stopped. Then I crashed for about 24 hours, and today I am writing for the first time and feeling thankful that I'm not stressing out about the cosplay anymore. I will continue working on that cosplay after I get back from C2E2.

So what did I accomplish during my aborted con crunch?

  • Completed the bodice

  • Had family visit me <3

  • Made detached sleeves

  • Added more embroidery to detached sleeve cuff

  • Made my first corset

  • Had my birthday!

  • Finished the floral cape

  • Began patterning and making fawn legs

Bodice: I got that final hip swoosh fabric attached and am very pleased with how it looks. I added a little rouching to the back of the swoosh so it has a nice draped look to it. This mostly completed the bodice. Now that I have time, I'm going to go back and add finishing touches to it.

Family visit: My mom likes to visit me around this time of year, and we had a great weekend together! I was able to sneak in a little crafting while she helped me repair one of my quilts, we were able to craft together <3 While she was here I worked on the detached sleeves and their cuffs.

Detached sleeves: This was a relatively simple patter, just a tube for my bicep and a circle with an off-set hole so the circle would hang with the back longer than the front when attached to the tube.

Sleeve Cuff: This piece will sit on top of the detached sleeve and is still not quite done yet. But working on the embroidery for it is a nice couch activity in the evenings. I will be adding similar embroidery to the matching corset as well!

Corset: Speaking of that corset… I have been cosplaying for 17 and a half years and have managed to not make a corset until now! I was a little intimidated, but I have been watching enough youtube creators who are very skilled at corset making that I felt at least a little prepared.

I started with a duct tape pattern and then began making a few mock-ups. It took about 4 tried to get a shape and length I was happy with. The scariest part was absolutely cutting out the fashion layer, because I used a pair of thrifted pants for this fabric and there is not much left! I managed to do a pretty good job, just a couple hiccups, and I'm very happy with how it looks so far! I'll be bringing the corset and arm cuffs to do some embroidery at the con. It will be a nice way to keep my hands busy during panels!

Birthday: I took a break from all crafting for my birthday! It was exactly the restful day I needed. My partner took me out for fancy coffee, then we went to the zoo for a little bit, we went home to rest and snuggle the dogs, then we went out for dinner! But it was back to the crunch the next day…

Cape: This cape is gravity defying. In the photo of Fearne, the cape seems to attach at her armpits, which is not quite how clothing works on human bodies. I decided to make the back of the cape attach to my corset, so that the corset can mostly support the weight of the fabric and all the flowers I had to attach to it. I did get to try on the corset and the cape together and it worked! It needs a little adjustment, but I can get to that after C2E2.

Fawn legs: This was the last thing I worked on before ending my con crunch. My plan is to splice two fluffy pants together and have them attach to the top of the hooves. I got the lower leg portion patterned and hand-sewed the new seams together, and that was that. I stopped crunching.

Next week I will have a update about how C2E2 went! I can’t wait to tell you all about it <3
