A WIP 2025 #14: Apr 17- Apr 23

This ended up being a bit of a week of rest for me (C2E2 kicked my butt a little more than I expected), but I still have a few things to talk about. Don’t worry, I’ll resume working on Fearne soon!

Here's what I worked on this week:

  • Visible mending

I used a chain stitch and stem stitch to make the vines

Visible Mending: I have a pile of clothes that need small repairs that I keep next to my couch for when I feel like doing a bit of hand sewing. I haven't had much time for it recently, so I took advantage of the C2E2 recovery period to work on a making the pile smaller.

I started with a purple knit sweater that had some unraveling in the front. I added vines using a stem stich, and then a large flower in the middle right over the damaged area. This not only covered the damage, it reinforced the fabric around it so that it wouldn't spread. I added a few more flowers and leaves and called it done.

The other project is a blue shirt I am still working on. My idea is to make it look like a field of flowers. There was only one little hole, which I patched with a star embroidery design, but I am having too much fun adding more details! So it's turning into a larger project. I think the result will make it a shirt I'm more likely to wear in the long term, so the effort will be worth it. AND I'm getting in plenty of embroidery practice!

I'm thinking that mending and repair will be my social media theme for May. This also gives me an excuse to work on mending a few cosplay pieces I have been putting off…
