A WIP 2025 #9: Mar 6 - Mar 12

Sometimes a project takes more time than expected and sometimes it takes exactly as much time as you expected. But I have found that very rarely does it take less time than expected. This week was no exception! My “I’ll just work on this quick little thing” took 3 days of troubleshooting.

So, here’s what I worked on:

Fearne's hooves

This was a part of the project I have felt very intimidated by. But the weather is starting to get pretty warm where I live (we'll see how long it lasts) and I want to get most of my worbla/heat gun work out of the way while we still get chilly temps. I had purchased some heel-less boots from ThredUp a couple of years ago for this cosplay and plan to use them as my base for the hooves. However, I want the hooves to be completely removable from the boots so that I can use them for other cosplays in the future.

I started by first making a cling wrap and masking tape pattern, building out the shape of the hoof, and absolutely hated how that looked.

So I watched a couple of youtube videos of how other cosplays have done stuff like this and started making a paper pattern. It took a couple of days to get the shape right, I wanted a deep cleft to make it look like separate toes for her cloven hooves. I then cut my pattern out of worbla and shaped it to the boots. I wrapped the boots in some scrap fabric and carefully heated and applied the worbla to the boot so it would have a snug fit. It took quite a bit of shaping to get both hooves looking nice, but I'm pretty happy with them as a first attempt!

All that’s left if to finish off the hooves with some elastic to keep them on the boot and some sort of base to fill in the hollow "toe" areas.
