A WIP 2025 #8: Feb 28 - Mar 5
These two REALLY love the snow <3
Did I mash most of my crafting into one day? Maybe…BUT it got done and I'm quite happy with what I was able to do in a day <3 The good vibes even continued into this morning, because I got all bundled up and played with my pups in the snow!
So what did I do yesterday?
Finished Fearne's skirt
Made arm-floofs for the detached sleeves
Started draping the top
Skirt: This skirt has been my albatross since I had to dismantle it a few weeks ago. My excuse for putting it off was to let the bias hang a little more but… I was just intimidated by having to hem a giant double circle skirt.
SO I started with adding in the waistband instead. I had already pleated the fabric, so I mostly had to fiddle with the placement of the slit in the skirt and figure out where the center-back was so I could line it up with the back seam of waistband. I was not successful, but it's going to be covered by so many other layers of fabric, I'm really not too worried about it.
Once I finally got going on hemming, it went fairly quickly. I made sure my waistband was hanging level on my dressform and found the shortest point of each panel. I was lucky that the seams were all the same length, so I just had to even out the spaces between each seam. I was pretty blown away by how much better it looked! My anxiety over it being too short was very unfounded, and I even ended up exaggerating the sloping seams that are at the side slit.
I can't wait to twirl in this thing! (My basement is too messy for a proper spin right now)
Arm-floofs: I started working on the math for this two weeks ago, but was distracted by a bunch of other projects and wanted to wait until I could give it my full attention before patterning anything. I was originally going to make these double circles as well, however I am running out of dyed fabric and I didn't want the extra weight on my detached sleeves. This simplified the patterning only a little bit. The floofs are asymmetric circles, so the cut out for my arm couldn't be in the center of the circle I was making. I figured it out and am happy with how they're coming along. The detached sleeves are much closer to being completed now!
Top: I was really on a roll at this point and wasn't ready to be done for the day. I picked up all of the extra fabric, including trimmings I had made that day and started trying to figure out this top.
My dilemma is that I want it to look nice on its own, under the corset/belt thing. So this is just a VERY rough draft. I think I want a different bra for the base, so I'll need to go shopping for that at some point. But it's a start, and I like that I may be able to use my trimmings for it!
